Professional Experience

Jan 2021 - Now

Independent Consultant Optic (Paris, France)

I registered as independent consultant to start cooperation with research laboratory, start-ups, and other companies. The subject is not limited to automotive lighting, moreover the optical simulation, and other adjacent domain with optic.

It is a very tough challenge but I believe I could get there. The idea comes from my recognition of the previous work experience, which covered different industry and variety of optic products. I observed that tricky problem appears more and more which are rather complex involving cross-functional knowledge on system level, and intra-cooperation is indespenable among various technology sector, a link between academy and industry is crutial. My aim is to contribute and solve combined problems by providing useful perspectives and analysis, bridging gaps between metiers, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise , insightful analytics, actionable feedback.

Jul 2020 - Dec 2020

Engineer - Lidar Module, Magna Electronics(Munich, Germany)

Before the pandemic, driven by strong desire of keep learning, I decided to take another challenge to workon ADAS technology and autonomous vehicle. This was a special project that I work with the task force on site of client's autonomous campus. My role is technical interface between the Lidar module supplier and client, communicating, reporting, leading technical key issue forum on daily base. Several topics involved: the lidar module front window's optic, thermal, and mechanical issue; Lidar cleaning system integration test and cleaning strategy design; Lidar module optical system defect analysis. I define and launch the laboratory and road test for stonechipping issue of front window. I carried on the cleaning module integration to vehicle and defined the cleaning strategy for the vehicle according to lidar blockage feedback. I originated a calculation on refurbish rate vs scrap for the expensive (at that time) lidar module.

Nov 2015 - Mar 2020

Optic Architect, Valeo Vision (Paris, France)

This involved research, engineering and innovation projects. I worked initially at interior lighting on project in manufacture phase, standarlization phase, also some innovative POC projects, and then start to support signal lighting to continue a pixelate rear lighting project. The work honed much of my modelling and simulation skills using CATIA and SPEOS (now Ansys speos). Meanwhile I regularly commit measurements with goniometer, luminance camera etc. I create optical characterisation methods, specifications, test and validation approach for innovative non-standard product. Some of the mockups were presented in mondial car show. I originated optic concepts and contributed several europe patents. Additional responsibilities is the key user for internal simulation tool, regularly spot and advise on improvements and added features necessary for innovation projects.

Dec 2013 - Oct 2015

Sr. Optical Engineer, Varroc Lighting (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic)

Worked in a small and effecient headlamp team in R&D center. I design beam shaping optics for lowbeam and highbeam in the headlamp assembly, with full-LED source, or hybrid source (laser, LED). The tool I used for optic surface generation and simulation was various: we use CATIA to operate optic geometry and ingegrate with mechanical design. Simulation is done with ASAP, and other analysis tools like Lucideshape, Luxrender. Here with team we built pixel and matrix highbeam and lowbeam module, and a few were patented.

Aug 2011- Nov 2013

Optical Design Engineer, OMS Lighting (Senica, Slovak Republic)

Moving to central Europe and start work in a private company local was a fortunate challenge, my work is to design secondary optics for LED lighting system indoor (office, hospital, etc) and outdoor (street, sport stadium, etc). I built lighting system and simulation with illumination design software LightTools, prototype, manufacture, test were done inhouse. Industrial standards know-how gained on streetlights.

Jul 2009 - Jul 2011

Sr. Optical Engineer, Flex Automotive (Beijing, China)

After the 08's worldwide economic shock I joined Flextronics automotive business group, start to work as optical design engineer for lighting systems of vehicle interior lights, some small signal lights exterior: CHMSAL, Turn indicator, etc. Same as before working between clients and suppliers closely on daily base: design, simulation, reporting. Travelling to customer sites in Australia, Germany for technical focused interactive workshops. This role let me building up my modelling and simulation skills using CATIAand SPEOS. Automotive Industrial standard and customer requirement knowledge was built up. Furthermore I made the first consultation project for the company as a consultant on the topic of optic specification.

Apr 2006 - Jan 2009

Display Engineer, Flex Mobile (Beijing, China)

Whilst completing my postgraduate research, I was employed as intern to support mobile LCD and OLED display laboratories measurement, reporting and development in the R&D. Duties included hardware test and development and software support, coordinating and guidance with supplier to ensure display performance, some general troubleshooting, reporting regularly with customer, as well as assisting supplier auditing.
